Police have laid charges against a 61-year-old Berserker man after three people were injured when they were allegedly attacked by the man wielding a machete in a Central Queensland street.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said they responded to reports of a disturbance on Leamington St, Berserker, on Friday about 11.30am.

The man has been charged with one count each of going armed so as to cause fear, assault occasioning bodily harm, serious assault and threatening violence.

The man was charged with serious assault because one of the alleged victims was over 60.

He is due to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Monday.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said one person at the residence on Leamington St, Berserker, suffered a laceration, understood to be to the neck, from the alleged assault. Two others were also injured.

But things took a turn when her granddaughter started walking back to work down the street.

“She was trying to go back to her workplace and next minute she’s banging and screaming at the door yelling ‘grandma, grandma let me in’,” Ms Reynolds said.

Ms Reynolds said she then called triple-0.

She said the man then went down another street before police arrived.

Ms Reynolds said the street was a busy thoroughfare which connected Ford St with Berserker St.

But while a lot of people walked the street and drove on it, she said she hadn’t experienced much crime in the area.

At the end of the street is a girl guides hall where a homeschooling group happens once a week.
