Two men allegedly caught stealing copper wire at Ergon Energy Rockhampton site

Copper wire theft at Ergon Energy Rockhampton

Two men have been charged following an alleged break and enter and attempted copper theft at an Ergon Energy complex in North Rockhampton last Sunday.

Police will allege the men unlawfully entered the Park Avenue facility’s storage yard about 2am before attempting to steal lengths of copper wire.

Police said an extensive CCTV network at the facility captured the alleged incident and police were immediately notified.

Rockhampton police and dog squad officers attended and searched the facility.

A 19-year-old Depot Hill man and 24-year-old Allenstown man were allegedly found hiding and were bitten by police dog Sacco during the course of their arrests.

Both men were treated at Rockhampton Hospital for minor injuries.

The 24-year-old man has been charged with enter premise and commit indictable offence and possessing dangerous drugs.

He is due to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 4.

The 19-year-old man has been charged with enter premise and commit indictable offence.

He is expected to appear before Rockhampton Magistrates Court on June 29.

Investigations are ongoing.
