The death of 35-year-old Todd Horwood in a tragic accident in Central Queensland has rocked the Queensland and Australian drag racing community.
Family and friends are in disbelief at the loss of what they have described as an awesome and ripper bloke who was “one of the happiest guys you would meet”.
Mr Horwood tragically died when the deck of a cattle truck collapsed on top of him at a property at Bauhinia, two-and-half-hours from Rockhampton.
Perth-based Chemical Warfare Nitro Racing shared photos on social media in honour of their mate “Toddy”.
“Toddy you left us with too many stories still to write,” the post said.
“Everyone has a favourite Toddy story and he gave us so many. RIP mate.”
Driver Anthony Bregley wrote: “Rest in peace big Toddy. It’s hard to believe you’re gone thought you would have been there forever.”
Codey Marriott shared his sentiments, “Toddy was the team’s spirit rolled into one larger than life foundation. Even introduced me to the Aussie hot dog. A sausage sizzle in fairy bread. Will be missed.”
A man in his 50s who suffered pelvic and leg injuries in the accident is in a stable condition at Gold Coast University Hospital.
The truck is understood to be owned by South Australian based company Ray Scott Group, which has a quarry and transport business in Bauhinia.
The incident is under investigation by Workplace Health and Safety, which has not been able to provide any comment.
