Minister for Seniors, Disability Services and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Craig Crawford, will welcome seniors to Rockhampton Seniors Expo, in a series of events planned to connect seniors with local services and supports.
“It will be wonderful to see so many people from Rockhampton come together to take part in this expo on 24 June,” Mr Crawford said.
“Seniors are taking the opportunity to get advice on matters ranging from smoke alarms, rebates and concessions, to driver’s licences and staying safe from scams.
“Of particular interest to everyone was the update from Queensland Health staff about the local COVID-19 vaccine rollout and what it means locally.
“It’s crucial that older Queenslanders can access the information they need about the vaccine rollout, so they can feel safe and confident about their decision to vaccinate,” he said.
Mr Crawford said seniors were also particularly excited to talk to staff from Smart Service Queensland.
“We know our concessions and rebates can save seniors thousands of dollars a year to help ease cost of living pressures,” Mr Crawford said.
“Our staff help ensure Queensland seniors can access the concessions and rebates they are entitled to.”
Mr Crawford said the Queensland Government recognised the important role of seniors in Queensland and remains committed to building age-friendly communities that are accessible to everyone.
“We know we need to get our planning right to ensure that we have the right services in place for seniors now, and in the future.
“The Expo will also give seniors the chance to inform our planning and Queensland’s next ageing strategy.”
The Rockhampton Seniors Expo will take place at the Frenchville Sports Club from 9am on Thursday 24 June 2021.
