Teenager killed in ATV rollover on private property at Bungundarra

A 14-year-old boy has died following an ATV rollover on a private property on the Capricorn Coast despite a mercy mission to save him.

A teenager has died after he was involved in an ATV rollover on a private property on the Capricorn Coast on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services responded to the incident at Bungundarra at 5.49pm.

According to Queensland Ambulance Service, a male in his early teens was flown to Rockhampton Hospital in a critical condition with head and chest injuries.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the 14-year-old had died in hospital.

The spokeswoman said a report was being prepared for the coroner.

According to quad bike fatality data compiled by Safe Work Australia, as at August 19, there had been three quad bike fatalities in 2021.

One of these deaths was a male in Queensland.

There were 24 quad bike fatalities in 2020, including nine deaths in Queensland.

Over half of quad bike fatalities between 2011-2018 involved rollovers and in only 10 per cent of fatalities the rider was wearing a helmet.
