Amelia Baker says horses have always been her best friends.
Whether working on her family’s property near Dysart or performing in equestrian events, the Rockhampton Grammar School boarder is mad keen on all things equine.
And now it’s a portrait of a family friend’s horse, named Limerick, which could win her $1,000.
The talented young artist has entered the Staedtler Artist of the Year competition for secondary students.
Amelia, who is in Year 12, regularly features horses in her various artworks whether drawing, painting or sculpture.
She drew the picture of Limerick as a gift for the horse’s owners.
First prize is worth $1,000 and the People’s Choice winner receives $500.
Head of RGS’ art department Amanda Lowjen said Amelia was an amazing student.
“I think she could have a very successful career as an artist,” she said.
Amelia will be taking commissions once she finishes Year 12 at the end of the year.
