St Brendan’s made it three from three on the opening day of the Rockhampton District Secondary Schools Rugby League grand finals.

Their teams prevailed in the Year 7C, 8C and 9C showdowns played at Rugby Park on Wednesday.

St Brendan’s made it to 15 of this year’s 16 deciders, the remainder of which will be played on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Their 7Cs set the tone for Wednesday’s hat-trick with a commanding 32-4 win over Heights College in the opening game.

Lock Harlem Williams scored two of the team’s seven tries, as well as the Tim Glasby Medal for Player of the Final.

Dynamic attack and brilliant ball skills were features of his performance.

St Brendan’s were unbeaten heading into the final and they were quick to showcase their scoring ability, taking charge with three first half-tries.

Heights’ halfback Lachlan Wedel breathed life back into the contest when he crossed out wide early in the second half to narrow the margin to eight points.

St Brendan’s returned fire in quick time as Williams produced some individual brilliance off the back of a great attacking play to score his second.

Three more tries would cap a perfect season for the boys in green and gold.

Coach Robert McElhone said it was a great reward for his players, who had produced solid footy in every game this season.

“The key today was continuity; boys playing their part from number one to 19,” he said.

“That’s something we emphasise, that everyone has a role and if they play it well then we play well as a team.”

Whiz-kid Williams was well supported by centre Javier Selby, five-eighth Zayden Elliott,

hooker Braxton Dallas and second rower Henry McLane.

Wedel was judged Heights’ best, while their middle forwards toiled hard.

The finals action continues with the B division finals on Thursday.
