Four Central Queensland hockey players have been selected to represent Queensland at the national under-21 championships.

They impressed selectors at trials held at Brisbane’s State Hockey Centre last weekend.

LIVESTREAM: 46 Hockey Queensland Championships games

Rockhampton’s Regan Weatherhead made the men’s team, while Gladstone’s Morgan Mathison and Mackay’s Claire Colwill and Keeley Walker are in the women’s line-up.

A further five players were named as shadows - Rockhampton product Kaleb Christensen and Mackay’s Noah Gauci and Edward Westcott (men) and Mackay’s Jordan Bliss and Gladstone’s Abbey Lowry (women).

The selection process was different this year because state championships were cancelled in 2020 because of COVID.

Associations nominated players for consideration and Hockey Queensland’s High Performance and Pathways team finalised the squads that attended the trials.

The CQ reps will now prepare for the national championships to be held in Moorebank, New South Wales, from June 30 to July 7.

The Queensland under-21 women are the defending champions, having won gold in 2019, while the men will be looking to improve on their fifth placing.
