Collingwood legend Dane Swan helped BITS Saints halt the Yeppoon Swans’ 26-game unbeaten run in the AFL Capricornia senior men’s competition.
The champion midfielder, who played 258 AFL games in his decorated career, donned the red, black and white for the Round 7 clash against the 10-time reigning champions on Saturday.
In a treat for players and spectators, the 41-year-old showcased the prolific ball-winning abilities that established him as one of the most influential players of his generation.
Swan’s on-field cameo followed his guest appearance at BITS’ sportsman’s dinner and memorabilia auction on Friday.
The Brownlow Medallist and premiership winner regularly makes one-off appearances at country football clubs to help them raise vital funds and to grow the profile of the game.
His presence on Saturday helped inspire BITS to a memorable 12.11-83 to 11.7-73 victory against the seemingly unstoppable Swans.
It was their first loss since Round 14 of the 2023 season, which was also inflicted by BITS.
Ky Hull led the way for BITS on Saturday, landing four majors as his team came back from a five-point first-quarter deficit.
Sam Johnson kicked two, with teammates William Achilles, Sam Spearing and Will Raffin also having big games.
Bulls’ duo roars
Jacob Redsell’s goal-kicking radar was on in Glenmore’s big win over the Gladstone Suns.
The vice-captain booted eight goals in the 117-point victory, which moved the Bulls into second place on the men’s ladder.
Full forward Tim Higgins also got in on the action, landing seven of his own.
Bradley Parnell and Brandon Ross each bagged a double in the team’s 24-goal bounty.
The Bulls have won six of their seven games this season as they set their sights on the big dance for a second year running.
Kangaroos bound ahead
Brothers Kangaroos women made it eight from eight with a hard-fought win over reigning champs Rockhampton Panthers.
Kept scoreless in the opening stanza, they built into the contest with an 18-point final quarter securing a 14-point win.
Erin Buchan kicked two of the team’s four goals, with Jessica Large and Monique Murphy landing one apiece.
Brothers sit two wins clear of Yeppoon Swans, with a winning percentage of 697.14 (488 points for, 70 against).
Skipper boots 10
Glenmore Bulls’ skipper Kassandra Hooper had a field day as her team piled on the points against an undermanned Gladstone Suns outfit.
The relentless ruck kicked 10 of 26 goals in the 176-nil drubbing.
Allana Bauer added six, Tahni Ivey four and Stevie Maison three in what is possibly one of the biggest winning margins ever seen in the AFL Capricornia women’s competition.
But kudos must go to the Suns for making the road trip to Rockhampton with just 13 players.
