It will be back to basics for The Cathedral College as they hunt their second win of the Dolphins Cup season against a spirited Shalom College.

TCC comes into the game on the back of a hard-fought 20-14 win over Emmaus in Round 1, while Shalom will be looking for their first competition points after going down 24-12 to reigning champions St Brendan’s.

The schools will also face off in the Dolphins Challenge (Year 10) and NRL Schoolgirls Cup - and you can watch the rugby league triple header live and exclusive on Kommunity TV.

The battle of the Melbourne Storm Old Boys - respective coaches Tony Martin and Antonio Kaufusi - will add another layer of intrigue to what should be a spirited contest.

The two coaches are looking for improved performances on Tuesday, with both stressing the need for their players to focus on doing the one percenters well.

“We’ll be going back to absolute basics - it will be all about ball control and completions for us,” Martin said.

“Shalom will be a good side; they’re well coached, they’ve improved over the last few years and they will be coming here to try to get a win up.

“They were a really tough game for us last year down in Bundaberg, I think we only ended up winning by two points, so we’re under no illusion it will be a tough game.”

Kaufusi said there was a key takeaway for his team from the season opener.

“Playing a quality side like Brendan’s, you can see how they just do the little things really, really well and consistently and they got rewarded for that against us,” he said.

“If we’re going to be competitive this year, we need to build that into our game and do it for longer periods of time.

“I believe we’ve got the personnel to be competitive but it’s about making sure we keep working hard for each other and making sure we do the little things right.”

Shalom’s Jimmy Gear will be an attacking threat.

Kaufusi said skipper and lock Riley Morcom would be primed for another big showing after an outstanding performance against St Brendan’s.

He got good support from Luke Giles, who started at lock, and Aston Fraser who was strong on the edge.

Kaufusi said his forward pack would need to work hard to help bring attacking weapons such as fullback Parkka Perrotta-Dowling and halfback Jimmy Gear into the game.

TCC’s powerful forward pack will have a big bearing on the result but Martin is looking for everyone to do their job.

“We’re very big on people just playing their role. For us, it’s know your role, play your role, accept your role,” he said.

“I just want all of them to be the best version of themselves and put in on the field all the things we’ve trained for.”
