The speed limit on the Artillery Road and Dairy Inn Road intersection approaches on the Rockhampton-Yeppoon Road has been reduced from 100km/h to 80km/h.
Keppel MP and Assistant Education Minister Brittany Lauga said the project delivered targeted safety upgrades, including the speed limit change which takes effect on Friday.
“Vehicle-activated speed warning signs have been installed on this priority intersection of Rockhampton-Yeppoon Road following a road safety investigation in November 2019,” Ms Lauga said.
“The speed limit on both approaches will be lowered this week.
“The intersection will also be receiving a major improvement when the State Government delivers an $80 million upgrade of Rockhampton-Yeppoon Road.
“The project is a key part of the government’s record $27.5 billion infrastructure investment over four years.”
Ms Lauga said while these changes were important, road driver behaviour and safety on the road network was everyone‘s responsibility.
“With National Road Safety Week still fresh our minds, we‘re asking everyone to slow down, stay attentive and make safe decisions,” Ms Lauga said.
“We all have a role to play in road safety.
“All motorists need to be aware of the fatal five and take them seriously: drink driving and drug driving, fatigue, inattention, not using a seat belt and speeding.“
