Tribute to 21-year-old killed in crash at Nankin, near Rockhampton
A 21-year-old Qld woman, killed in a two-car crash, is being remembered as the “soul” of a family grieving her “unimaginable loss”.
The mother of a 21-year-old woman killed in a crash in the Rockhampton region has described her as her “sunshine”.
It comes after the young crash victim, who died when the Mazda she was travelling in collided with a Nissan Patrol at Nankin, was identified as Samantha “Sammy” Fielder on Wednesday.
The crash happened on Emu Park Rd on Sunday.
Sharing the “devastating” loss of her daughter via a GoFundMe page, Lisa Pobjoy said Samantha was more than just a name – “she was the light in every room, the laughter in our lives, and the soul of our family.
“There are no words that will ever be enough to express the heartbreak I feel,” she wrote.
“You were not just my daughter — you were my sunshine, my laughter, my strength on the hardest days.
“At just 21, you had a light that touched so many.
“Your kindness, your sass, your love for your nieces, and the way you lit up every room — I was, and always will be, so proud to be your mum.
“No one ever expects to say goodbye this soon, especially not to someone so young, vibrant, and full of life.”
Ms Pobjoy said that as the family navigated their “unimaginable loss” they were reaching out to their friends, family and community to help give Samantha “the best send off we possibly can”.
“Rest in peace, our beautiful angel,” the message reads.
“You will forever be missed and loved beyond words.”
The Rockhampton community was left reeling after the crash which follows a string of recent road tragedies in Central Queensland.
Samantha’s male passenger, also aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The female driver of the Nissan and a male passenger, both in their 20s, were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Locals have flooded social media with messages of sympathy for the family.
Her friend, Shaquinna Fuary wrote simply: “Fly High baby girl”.
Shaun X Beth OBrien said her “thoughts were with the family at this very sad time. Rest in peace.’’
“So sad for the family and friends, sending prayers and hugs,’’ Lyn Fletcher posted.
Lyn Edmistone described the tragedy as heartbreaking.
Investigations are ongoing.
More to come.
Central Queensland rocked by horror crashes
Central Queensland and Mackay have had a shocking run of crashes in the past few weeks.
Mackay mums shared heartbreaking tributes to their sons on Friday after two teenagers who had been inseparable since prep, Liam Doumergue and T-Jay Petrass were farewelled in a funeral.
The teens, along with Eleanor Cunington — also 19 – were coming home from a night of tenpin bowling when they crashed into a Great Wall Ute around 10:30pm Friday, July 18, on the Mackay Ring Road.
The crash was followed by one in Central Queensland in which four people, including two children were killed on the Capricorn Highway, between Blackwater and Comet in the Central Highlands, 230 kilometres west of Rockhampton.
Shaun Ranger and Baylee, 7, and Chandler, 6 were involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota HiLux.
Mr Ranger’s fiancee, Renee Carla, shared her devastation. “My babies and fiance all gone after heading home from a great weekend camping as I was minutes behind in my car with my youngest daughter and friend,” Ms Carla said.
A GoFundMe has since been created by a family friend to help Ms Carla with the funeral expenses and supporting her youngest daughter Saphora, 2.
More than $54,000 has been raised towards the $80k target from more than 700 donations.
