Save the date – National Tree Day is only a month away

Rockhampton Regional Council is encouraging all green thumbs to save Sunday, August 1 2021, as a day to unite and dig in, at tree planting events across the region during National Tree Day.
Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said while the event was unable to go ahead last year due to COVID-19, many would be pleased that they could enjoy this national event once again and make a positive impact for their community.
“National Tree Day is Australia‘s largest community tree planting and nature protection event, and it’s a day I know many people in the Rockhampton Region look forward to every year,” Ms Rutherford said.
“This year’s planting sites will be at Frenchville Road, Yeppen Lagoon Rockhampton and Remembrance Park Gracemere.
“At both Frenchville Road and Remembrance Park we’ll be continuing work from previous years, so participants will be able to see the progress of previous planting activities and the positive legacy they’re helping to create.”
Water and Environmental Sustainability Councillor Donna Kirkland said there were many benefits to National Tree Day.
“National Tree Day first started in 1996, and over the years since then we have seen how positive this event is for our region,” Ms Kirkland said.
“National Tree Day is an opportunity to get out and help green our region alongside other members of the community. It’s also a chance to improve the habitat for our local native wildlife, and benefit our area for years to come.
“We expect an excellent turn-out this year and encourage anyone interested in attending to register early.
“Keen tree planters can register before the day and go in the draw to win one of three prize packs.”
