Industry professionals turned out to an information briefing on the Rockhampton Ring Road project this week where major contractors bidding for work on the $1.065 billion project were revealed.
The 14.7km ring road project has been divided into two separate parts, being the South and North packages.
While contracts have not been officially announced by the State Government, a number of contractors were in attendance at the event.
Joint venture Acciona and Fulton Hogan is one of the major players bidding for the South package.
This will be the section between the new Capricorn Highway intersection and Rockhampton Ridgelands Road.
Joint venture BMD Group and Bielby is one of the key groups bidding for the North project.
This package will be the Ridgelands Road overpass to the Yeppoon Road intersection with the Bruce Highway and will include the new 80 metre span Fitzroy River bridge.
Key personnel from government departments provided a presentation on their involvement on the project in front of about 60 attendees from various industry businesses at the Frenchville Sports Club.
Major works will begin in January 2023, pending the wet season, with some early works anticipated with site investigation, surveys and set up/establish site.
The work was expected to take three and a half years.
Contracts were expected to be finalised by the end of this year, in time for Christmas.
A five/two roster has been proposed for the workers, however it was noted this is open to negotiation.
The project will include a 17.4km of new roads and more than 6km of bridging.
It was noted in the presentation that it was “quite rare” to have so much bridge work in a road project but this was due to being on a flood plain.
The design of the ring road has been developed to provide a high level of flood immunity, similar to a one in a 100-year flood event and to 9.86m on the Rockhampton flood gauge on the Fitzroy River.
All of the land acquisition for the project was finalised on June 17.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads began liaising with property owners in 2018, with some properties vacated and others leased back to landowners as they wait for the construction to begin.
Fulton Hogan has expressions of interest job advertisements for the Rockhampton Ring Road Project for management, financial managers and controllers, consulting and general human resources, contracts and others on Seek online.
Attendees at the information briefing were able to speak with Fulton Hogan and Acciona and Bielby and BMD afterwards.
The presenter from Department of Transport and Main Roads was unable to do a media interview.
