Council owned assets across Rockhampton and Mount Morgan will be demolished over the next year as they have “reached the end of service life”.
Rockhampton Regional Council opened tenders this month for the demolition and removal of the eight council assets.
A church, amenities buildings, a clubhouse, dwellings, sheds and other buildings are among the list to be removed and the sites are to be developed into a vacant state.
This list was finalised by the council table in March 2021.
The previous council report states the properties had been acquired by council and in most cases were “vacant, derelict, non-compliant or condemned” and were regularly vandalised and frequented by squatters.
Some of the buildings are listed as being “riddled with toxic black mould, asbestos or even have holes into old septic tanks”.
Community groups that still use the buildings will be directed to alternate facilities.
The combined value of the buildings in 2021 was reported to be $209, 837.
It was estimated the demolition and removal of the property would cost about $700,000.
Council documents state the tenderer will be weighed on the following criteria: 28 per cent for project experience, 10 per cent for corporate and financial capacity, construction program and plans 15 per cent, contractor local 10 per cent, local preference 12 per cent and price 25 per cent.
A site inspection for interested tenderers will be held on April 27 and 28 and the contract is due to be awarded in June.
The successful tenderer will be able to take possession of the sites on July 1, 2022 and works must be completed by June 2023.
Work will be restricted to be conducted on Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm.
Residents in close proximity to the flagged sites have been contacted by council directly and will be kept informed as the program proceeds.
