Rockhampton, Gladstone, Emerald, Biloela weather to see temperatures to drop

It’s time to pull out the winter woollies as temperatures across Central Queensland begin to drop this week. Here’s what’s contributing to the cool change.

Rain Outlook

It’s finally the time to pull out the winter woollies and ugg boots with temperatures expected to drop across Central Queensland this week.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology temperatures will drop to a minimum of just 10 degrees on Wednesday morning reaching a maximum of just 23.

Meanwhile on Thursday temps will start at 11 degrees before reaching only 21 degrees.

In Gladstone temperatures will be slightly warmer with a minimum of 12 degrees for both Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday will be a maximum of 24 degrees in the Port City, while Thursday the maximum will drop to 21.

In Emerald the mercury will drop to a minimum of 10 degrees on both Wednesday and Friday, while Thursday’s minimum will be 11 degrees.

The coolest maximum temperature for Emerald will be on Thursday, reaching just 22 degrees.

But Biloela will be the coldest with minimum temperatures reaching single digits.

The minimum temperature for Bilo for both Wednesday and Thursday will be 8 degrees, reaching maximum of just 21 degrees on both days.

A spokesman from BoM said a trough moving across the state was the reason the mercury would drop.

“From tomorrow (Monday) a trough will move across the southern part of the state and will probably reach Central Queensland overnight on Monday or early Tuesday,” he said.

“It will introduce a cool south-westerly airflow which will drag cooler air behind it and across the Capricornia region.”

He said the weather would fit in with the “seasonal change” and some areas further inland could see minimum temperatures of just 5 degrees.

“June is considered the first of the winter months, so it’s a bit more seasonal than we’ve seen of late,” he said.

“It’s quite a change from the onshore flow we’ve had, instead it’s more a dryer offshore airflow.”

The trough is not likely to bring any rainfall to the region, with temperatures expected to rise again by the end of the week.
