The man behind the wheel of a car involved in a fiery fatal crash on the Capricorn Highway, killing him and the other driver, has been confirmed as Rockhampton’s Raphael Mynott.
He was driving a red Mazda 3 which burst into flames after colliding with a silver Toyota HiLux at Duaringa, west of Rockhampton, just after 8pm on Tuesday, August 29.
Mr Mynott attended Yeppoon State High School and lived in Emu Park, according to Facebook, however it is understood he was recently living in Rockyview.
Former colleagues and friends have paid tribute to the Rockyview man after his former employer shared a moving post honouring him on Facebook.
Joel Hutton responded with praise for Raphael and offered condolences to his family.
“Rip big fella you are a legend, a big friendly giant.”
Brad Nielsen shared an emotional post highlighting Mr Mynott’s work ethic and personality.
“One of our greatest workers, I will never forget the time and energy that Raphael added to what ever contract we were on. Go in peace brother great friend and a great man.”
Police believe the Mazda 3 was travelling east near Duaringa, about 107km from Rockhampton, when it collided with a Toyota HiLux travelling in the opposite direction.
A third vehicle, a cattle truck, which was believed to be one of the vehicles being overtaken, sustained some damage as a result of the impact of the two vehicles.
Rockhampton Highway Patrol Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Ewan Findlater said the crash was “horrific for all involved”, with the Mazda 3 bursting into flames due to the impact of the crash.
“There were a number of drivers who saw the actual crash, we do have some witnesses,” Snr Sgt Findlater said.
“If anyone else has information contact Crimestoppers.”
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
