WORKS have commenced on the $16 million redevelopment of Allenstown Plaza in Rockhampton.
The redevelopment will involve the addition of approximately 2400 square metres of retail space, 17 new speciality store offerings, and a total of 370 car spaces upon completion.
The existing Woolworths will also be fully refurbished as part of the project.
John Courtney, head of retail asset management, said they were pleased the project was underway.
"We are very pleased to have commenced work on the redevelopment of Allenstown Plaza, which on completion will provide the local Rockhampton community and retailers with an enhanced shopping environment," he said.
"Having also recently commenced our leasing campaign for the additional speciality retail space, we are excited to announce that the Reject Shop will join the centre on completion of the works.
"We look forward to also announcing other new retailers over the coming year."
Hoarding and temporary fences will be put in place as part of the site establishment works with a portion of Canning St, between Grant and Derby sts, scheduled to be closed next week for the duration of the works.
The redevelopment is anticipated to be completed by mid-2013, with details of the works to be displayed within the centre for shoppers' information.
