A Qantas plane made a detour, landing at a Central Queensland airport and staying for a short period this afternoon, after an inflight emergency situation.
The plane made an urgent landing at Rockhampton Airport in Central Queensland just before 4pm, according to reports.
Reports indicated it was due to a medical emergency.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a QAS team were called to the airport on Canoona Rd, West Rockhampton just before 4pm and they were still on scene.
She said the information they had received indicated it was a cardiac medical emergency.
Another spokesperson advised the Morning Bulletin at 4.50pm that a male in his 70s was transported to Rockhampton Hospital in a stable condition.
A Qantas spokesperson said a flight was diverted due to a medical issue and will shortly be continuing on to its final destination, Brisbane.
It is time a Qantas flight had to urgently land at Rockhampton Airport in the past month.
A QantasLink (Alliance Airlines) flight on a Embraer E190 left Townsville about 6am and was scheduled to land in Brisbane at 7.50am on September 17.
Eagle-eyed plane-spotters in Central Queensland reported just after 7.15am that there was “something up” and it underwent a rapid descent of about 20,000 feet (6000m) before diverting to Rockhampton Airport.
Flight data showed it was travelling at about 29,000 feet before dropping to about 5000 feet after the ‘Squawk 7700’ emergency declaration.
