A renovated two-storey 1930s Queenslander on The Range has sold post-auction to local buyers for $1.3 million.
The property at 70 Jessie Street was listed for sale through McGrath Rockhampton and Capricorn Coast on February 8 and went to auction on March 2, where it sold after it was passed in at $1.28 million.
The property last sold for $950,000 on May 16, 2019 and $1.08 million five years before that on February 10, 2014.
McGrath principal Todd Brandon said the property had been really popular, especially in the first few days it had been on the market.
“Just in the first couple of days we were able to log 17 buyer inquiries against it,” Mr Brandon said.
He said there were six registered bidders and about 50 spectators at the auction on Wednesday.
“We passed the property in at the auction for $1.28 million and sold it very quickly after for $1.3 million under auction conditions,” he said.
“The auction process allows you to continue to talk to the buyers after you pass it in.”
He said the buyers were a local family and that all bidders were either local or from Central Queensland.
With a classic white picket fence, double gable roof and extensive indoor and outdoor living spaces, the home is described as the perfect mix of “classic features and modern finishes”.
The property boasts five bedrooms, three bathrooms, an office, study and extensive living areas on both levels.
The property also features bay windows, french doors, fretted archways, polished timber floors, a designer kitchen with marble tiles and open plan living with bi-fold doors to a back veranda.
Outside the home is a garden with an automated irrigation system, pool with a pool house and cubby house, as well as a double carport and extra accommodation for a golf buggy or motorbike.
Mr Brandon said one of the most endearing characteristics of the property was its location, being in walking distances to schools, Mater Private Hospital, Rockhampton Botanic Gardens and Rockhampton Golf Club.
“It is a turn of the century house, about 100 years old,” he said.
“The owners have done a wonderful job of maintaining its street appeal.
“They have kept its original characteristics but configured the internal space to be very modern, catering for most modern families’ needs.
“You have the traditional characteristics of a home that was built in the 1920s-1930s with the classic Queenslander shape and double gable roof and with all those modern features.
“It has been really well executed with its design and the quality, fixtures and fittings are just world class.”
He said high-end homes don’t come along all that often.
“It’ll be several months before we will probably see something else brought to the market,” he said.
“To know there’s five other buyers out there who actively participated in the auction on Wednesday night is a good sign for those people who are considering selling a high-end property in Rockhampton at the moment.”
