Young driver Azeem Raymond Gamble hid in bushland after crashing at speed on Yeppoon Road

Another charge and more details have emerged after an incident that saw a mum and dad and their children travelling to the Capricorn Coast go through a terrifying ordeal when a young driver attempting to overtake them lost control and crashed.

A young driver has had a second charge dealt with after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into two traffic islands en route to Yeppoon, narrowly missing a car carrying a family.

Azeem Raymond Gamble, 23, pleaded guilty to an initial charge of driving without due care and attention when he faced Yeppoon Magistrates Court on September 30.

In the same court on November 25, Gamble had a charge of failing to comply with the duties of a driver involved in a crash, dealt with ex parte.

During the latest court matter, for which Gamble did not attend, the court heard more details about the July 16 crash on Rockhampton-Yeppoon Rd where Gamble’s driving caused him to lose control of the vehicle “at extreme risk” to another vehicle on the road which contained a husband and wife and their children.

In relation to the second charge, Police Prosecutor Kevin Ongheen said the witness (male driver of the other vehicle) stopped behind Gamble’s car after the incident.

Sergeant Ongheen said the male driver got out of his car and approached Gamble who was “scrambling within (his) motor vehicle”.

“The defendant was seen to get out of the motor vehicle, and then run across Yeppoon-Rockhampton Road into bushland,” Sgt Ongheen said.

“Police got to the scene and spoke to the witness - the witness informed police of what had occurred.”

Police caught up with Gamble at a later date.

For the second charge, Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale fined Gamble $150 and no conviction was recorded.
