A truck driver accused of causing a crash that killed a nurse and senior patient in the back of an ambulance is set to stand trial in the new year.
Timothy Lee Wilson entered a plea of not guilty in Rockhampton District Court on Thursday to one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing the deaths of 65-year-old Maryborough nurse Ray Wyeth and 87-year-old Martyn House.
It is alleged the 42-year-old was the driver of a truck headed east on the Capricorn Highway at Stanwell, just after midday on October 11, when it collided with the rear of an ambulance stopped at a roadworks traffic light.
The incident allegedly caused extensive damage to the ambulance and pushed it off the roadway where it then rolled.
Two passengers, Mr Wyeth and patient Mr House, were in the back of the ambulance and died at the scene.
Mr Wilson was transported to the Rockhampton Hospital in a serious condition.
He was charged in November and was released on bail in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on November 10.
Mr Wilson’s trial is due to begin in the district court on March 13 and is expected to take at least four days.
