Sole parent Lisa Marie Williams caught growing cannabis in bedroom at her Emu Park home

A Capricorn Coast mother of two has been busted with cannabis plants and a drug-growing set-up in a bedroom of her home. It was not the first time she’d been caught.

A mother of two has faced court after police busted her growing drugs in a bedroom at her Capricorn Coast home.

Lisa Marie Williams, 56, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on November 17 to producing cannabis and possessing equipment used in the commissioning of a crime.

Police prosecutor Stacey Bain said on October 13, police executed a search warrant at Williams’ Archer Street home at Emu Park.

Ms Bain said in an upstairs bedroom, police found a grow-tent and nine cannabis plants, about 10cm tall, growing in pots.

Ms Bain said Williams told police she fertilised and watered the plants, and that they were for her personal use.

The prosecutor said the grow tent contained an exhaust fan set-up and lighting.

The court heard that Williams had drug offending on her criminal history.

Solicitor Stephanie Nicholas said Williams was a sole parent in receipt of a parenting payment, who suffered from depression and anxiety for which she was on medication.

Ms Nicholas said Williams also had an overactive thyroid and she used cannabis to assist her.

“She has considered seeking a script from her GP for the medicinal cannabis but it’s very expensive and she simply can’t afford it,” Ms Nicholas said.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale noted that Williams had previous for producing dangerous drugs on her history before placing her on probation for six months.

Convictions were recorded.
