A Brisbane man who was said to be seriously injured in a chaotic multi-car crash between Rockhampton and Mackay at the weekend has made a miraculous recovery.
A shocking image, taken by a rescue chopper crew above the Bruce Highway at Clairview at the weekend, reveals how close a multi-car crash was to being a mass casualty event.
The crash, involving cars and a motorhome which was smashed into pieces, closed the Central Queensland stretch of the highway for two hours on Saturday.
Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash about 8.26am.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a 65-year-old man was trapped but later freed from one of the vehicles.
The spokeswoman said the man was in a serious condition while two other people were stable with no reported injuries.

The on-board medical team assessed and stabilised the man before flying him to Rockhampton Hospital for further scans and treatment.
A spokesperson for Rockhampton Hospital confirmed the 65-year-old man was discharged from hospital on Monday.
He is from Bardon, Brisbane.
