A serial traffic offender who is currently in Central Queensland for work has been caught by police again.

Bart Joel Criaco, 37, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on October 14 to driving while demerit point disqualified.

The court heard that police nabbed Criaco behind the wheel of a grey Mitsubishi Triton on Kinka Beach Road at 10.15pm on September 18.

His driver’s licence was suspended from August 18 to November 17 and he had no emergency reason for driving.

Criaco, representing himself in court, was asked by Magistrate Jason Schubert if he agreed the traffic history tendered by the prosecution was his.

Criaco replied: “The history, yeah, it’s not the best is it?”

Mr Schubert said: “No.”

Criaco went on to tell Mr Schubert that he was unaware his licence was suspended as he was from the Sunshine Coast, in Central Queensland for work, and had not been receiving his mail.

“I haven’t really had a permanent address for a long time, to be honest,” Criaco said.

Criaco noted that he had a number of speeding fines on his history.

Mr Schubert also pointed out that Criaco had previously driven with an expired licence in 2016 and also had an unlicensed driving offence on his history.

“Your history doesn’t show someone who appreciates having a licence, or the privilege of having a licence,” Mr Schubert said.

He fined Criaco $475 and disqualified him from driving for six months.
