An aspiring real estate agent has received a prison term for her fourth assault charge in 10 years.

Chloe Lee Power, 34, was sentenced in Rockhampton District Court on April 27 for an assault she and her partner, Billi-Jai Cameron-Knight, carried out against one of his co-workers’ because the man had urinated in Cameron-Knight’s wardrobe.

She had entered pleas of guilty on February 8 for the assault occasioning bodily harm and burglary at night in company after Cameron-Knight was sentenced for the assault and drug trafficking on March 28.

The court heard the pair walked up behind the victim as he sat drinking alcohol in the garage of a Koongal residence about 2am on December 12, 2020 to confront him about urinating in a wardrobe and punched him in the back of the head.

Crown prosecutor Melissa Wilson said the pair continued the assault as the victim lay unconscious on the ground, punching him.

She said the victim sustained facial fractures, swelling to his face, a laceration to his chin, a cut to the back of his skull and a broken tooth for which he was referred to the patient surgery team at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Police executed a search warrant on Power’s residence on May 21, 2021, locating several drug-related items and on her phone, a message boasting about the assault.

Power’s criminal record included a fine for a common assault in 2013, a prison term for an assault occasioning bodily harm in 2017 and probation for a common assault in 2019.

Defence barrister Jordan Ahlstrand said his client’s father died when she was 22 years old and her mother went on to have a long-term relationship with a man who was allegedly physically and psychologically violent to both of them.

He said Power now resided with her mother – both of whom were sobbing during court proceedings – and was paying the mortgage off the house they shared by working full time at a real estate agency and working 17 hours a week after hours.

Mr Ahlstrand said his client had been using methamphetamines at the time of the assault but had negative drug tests to show she was now abstaining.

He said she has been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, borderline personality disorder and emotional unstable personality disorder which she was now medication compliant.

Judge Jeff Clarke said evidence before the court showed Power had struggled with her mental health for years and had demonstrated she had sought assistance for that and her drug use prior to this assault.

He sentenced Power to 18 months prison, wholly suspended and operational for two years.

Judge Clarke also placed her on a two-year probation order.

Convictions were recorded.
