Rockhampton court: Joanne Margaret Lydiard charged with stealing iPhone and food

A woman living at a Central Queensland pub has been charged with multiple stealing offences. Find out what happened in court here.

A disability care worker allegedly had their iPhone 11 stolen from them by one of their clients.

Joanne Margaret Lydiard has been charged with stealing over the alleged offence and appeared in Rockhampton’s Magistrates Court on May 31 for a bail application in relation to the matter.

Ms Lydiard, 42, had three fresh stealing charges before the court, according to her lawyer, Ken Spinaze. No pleas were entered for the alleged offences.

Mr Spinaze said in relation to the first charge, the items allegedly stolen were foods, such as a pork shoulder, butter chicken and coleslaw.

All of which Mr Spinaze said totalled fewer than $100 in value.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale said it was alleged Ms Lydiard also stole an iPhone 11, with restitution of $1100 sought.

Mr Spinzare noted Ms Lydiard had some mental health issues and a public trustee was managing her money.

Before her arrest for these matters, Ms Lydiard was living in temporary accommodation at the Fitzroy Motel in East Street, Depot Hill.

Mr Spinzare said if given bail, Ms Lydiard was happy to report and comply with any orders the magistrate mandated.

Ms Beckinsale requested a curfew of 6pm to 6am be put in place on Ms Lydiard.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Sarah Rowe said the phone Ms Lydiard allegedly stole was from a disability support worker who worked with her.

Senior Constable Rowe recommended a no contact order be put in place and told the court she believed the phone had not been recovered.

She said they weren’t able to confirm that Ms Lydiard was living at the Fitzroy Motel address with the owner or manager of the address.

Senior Constable Rowe noted Ms Lydiard had a history of failing to appear and a breach of bail.

She said Ms Lydiard had allegedly committed these offences while on probation for prior stealing offences.

Ms Beckinsale granted Ms Lydiard bail with conditions including a curfew between 6pm to 6am.

Ms Beckinsale told Ms Lydiard if she was struggling with money, she needed to get help from her public trustees.

She adjourned Ms Lydiard’s matter to June 14.
