Police prosecutors are waiting on two documents to complete a brief of evidence for a case where two adults have been accused of torturing and assaulting a two-year-old child just before Christmas.

A Central Queensland man and woman, both aged 22, have been charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm and torture, both of a domestic violence offence.

Police attended a Rockhampton home on December 21 where they arrested and later charged the duo.

The two-year-old boy is understood to have sustained severe injuries and was hospitalised as a result.

The man has been remanded in custody and the woman granted bail.

Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard an update in the case on February 8 when the man’s charges were mentioned.

Police prosecutor Sergeant David Longhurst said prosecution was waiting on outstanding material including medical records and a doctor’s statement.

“I envisage the brief, aside from those two things, will be available for collection shortly,” he said.

Sergeant Longhurst then requested the male defendant’s matters be adjourned to marry up with the co-accused’s on February 22.

The request was granted.
