Richard Bryan Crosland applies for bail in Rockhampton Magistrates Court

A former long-time board member of a Queensland community church has allegedly been caught naked in a woman’s carport while children were out trick-or-treating for Halloween.

A former long-time board member of a Yeppoon church was allegedly caught naked and masturbating in a woman’s carport on Sunday evening while children were out trick-or-treating for Halloween.

Richard Bryan Crosland, 67, applied for bail in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Monday.

Mr Crosland was charged with one count each of entering a dwelling with intent, being in charge of a vehicle while over the general alcohol limit, committing an indecent act in any place with intent to insult or offend any person, and obstructing a police officer.

Police prosecutor Clancy Fox opposed bail being granted to Mr Crosland.

Mr Fox said Mr Crosland was allegedly naked in the carport of someone he didn’t know and was masturbating.

He said Mr Crosland allegedly struggled with police when they attempted to restrain him.

He said the alleged offence occurred at a woman’s house in Lammermoor, who lived in a residential area where there were children trick-or-treating at the time.

Defence lawyer William Prizeman said his client, who lived in Tanby, had some mental health concerns and was “exacerbated” by the consumption of alcohol at the time he committed the alleged offences.

Mr Prizeman said the matter was likely to “take a certain course” and argued that his client would not be looking at a term of imprisonment.

He said his client was willing to comply with bail conditions, including no contact with the woman, being prohibited from going to the street she lived in Lammermoor, being prohibited from consuming alcohol, present to a medical practitioner in regards to mental health and reporting conditions to Yeppoon Police Station.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale granted Mr Crosland bail with conditions and adjourned his matter to November 29.

It is understood Mr Crosland is no longer a part of the Yeppoon church.

The church did not wish to provide any comment.
