Police have charged a man after discovering meth and coke with a potential street value of $5m in what they have described as a ‘very significant find for anywhere in Australia’.

Police have charged a NSW man after discovering 5kg in meth and coke in a Toyota HiLux on the Dawson Highway at Calliope in the second biggest drug seizure in Central Queensland.

Detective Inspector Luke Peachey said “police had located a large quantity of what they believe to be methamphetamine as well as a large quantity of cocaine” overnight with a potential street value of $5m.

“Police will be alleging that it is over five kilograms of methamphetamine along with two ounces of cocaine,” he said.

“Obviously it is a very significant find, for not only for an area like this but anywhere in Australia.”

Officers from the Gladstone Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) intercepted a white Toyota HiLux travelling along the highway about 10.15pm on June 19, according to police.

Police will allege the vehicle was travelling from Sydney towards Mackay.

Police allege a search of the vehicle uncovered approximately five kilograms of methamphetamine, two ounces of cocaine, and a quantity of electronic devices.

A 25-year-old NSW man was taken into custody and has been charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs (methamphetamine and cocaine), and one count each of possessing anything used in the commission of a crime, and contravening an order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

He is due to appear before Gladstone Magistrates Court today, June 20.
