Mum sped from police after first intercept, but they caught her later

Police exited their vehicle in order to speak with the Rockhampton driver, however she sped off, turning on Bolsover Street.

A mother drove while disqualified to get money off her child’s father for a school camp.

Tayla Ann Doyle, 26, pleaded guilty on July 6 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count of obstruct police and one of driving while disqualified by court order.

Police prosecutor Jennifer Leach said police were patrolling Depot Hill when they attempted to intercept Doyle.

She said that before being able to activate emergency lights, Doyle’s vehicle stopped on the side of the road.

Ms Leach said police conducted a U-turn and pulled up behind Doyle’s vehicle.

She said while police were stationary, they observed two people in the vehicle – the defendant and a child in the back seat.

Ms Leach said police exited their vehicle in order to speak with Doyle, however she sped off, turning on Bolsover Street.

She said because of the excessive speed Doyle was travelling at, police did not pursue her.

However, another police unit was travelling on Bolsover Street at 12.45pm when they observed Doyle’s vehicle at a red light.

Ms Leach said police exited their vehicle and told Doyle to pull over for a discussion.

She said checks revealed Doyle had been disqualified by a court order.

Defence lawyer Rebecca Winning said Doyle, who was a casual employee of Woolworths as a night filler, was on her way to her son’s father’s house to get money for the son’s school camp.

She said Doyle might lose her job due to the disqualification period the court had to impose for this offending.

Doyle was fined $1100 and disqualified from driving for the mandatory minimum of two years.
