A Central Queensland woman who stole cigarette butts has faced court on a string of charges.

Melissa Anne Norris, 46, of Moura, pleaded guilty in Biloela Magistrates Court on February 8 to two counts of stealing, illegally administering a controlled drug to someone, two counts of failing to surrender into custody, and failing to appear in court.

Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd said the first stealing charge involved Norris attending a man’s residence at Moura and taking a beer bottle which contained cigarette butts, on September 6, 2021.

Mr Boyd said when police questioned Norris, she said she knew she shouldn’t have stolen the property.

The court heard the second theft involved Norris stealing a woman’s restricted medication.

The illegally administering a controlled drug charge related to Norris giving a woman valium when she was not authorised to do so.

The court heard that Norris had experienced significant health difficulties and solicitor Richard Parks tendered documentation supporting that.

Mr Parks said Norris was currently receiving Newstart Allowance.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale placed Norris on six months’ probation and convictions were recorded.
