A mother busted with drugs at a service station between Rockhampton and Yeppoon has been told she’ll end up in jail if she keeps offending.
Megan Levina Ann Keiler, 47, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on October 6 to cannabis possession.
The court heard that on May 24 at 2.45pm, Tactical Crime Squad officers saw a car parked in the carpark at Ampol Foodary Yeppoon (formerly known as The Oaks Service Station).
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said Keiler was standing at an open passenger side door of the vehicle.
“She suddenly ran to the rear of the vehicle and concealed herself,” Sgt Ongheen said.
When police got to the vehicle, Keiler was sitting in the driver’s seat and she told officers she was having a toilet break.
Sgt Ongheen said police searched the vehicle and they found about 21g of cannabis (total) in three separate clip-seal bags.
“Each bag and contents had similar weight...” Sgt Ongheen said.
The court heard that Keiler had previous drug offending on her criminal history and she had received probation in 2020.
Solicitor Krissy Cummins said Keiler was a mother of one who received Newstart Allowance.
“She accepts that the drugs were in her car,” Ms Cummins said.
“She would consent to a further period of probation.”
Before handing down penalty, Magistrate Cameron Press noted Keiler had previously appeared in court “on a number of occasions” for drug matters.
“You’re going to end up going to jail one day if you keep doing this. Do you understand that?” Mr Press told Keiler.
Keiler responded: “Yes.”
Mr Press: “You need to address your drug issues once and for all. You will not keep getting fines and probation.”
Mr Press placed Keiler on 15 months’ probation which includes drug counselling and rehabilitation.
A conviction was recorded.
