A Taranganba woman has faced court after police made an unexpected discovery in her backyard while investigating another matter.
Megan Letitia Turi Smith, 39, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on February 22 to possessing dangerous drugs.
Police prosecutor Brandon Selic said at 10.40pm on February 4, police were called to an incident at Taranganba.
Mr Selic said police walked to the rear of Smith’s residence while investigating a separate matter when they found a cannabis plant growing in the backyard.
The court heard that when questioned by police, Smith said she was the only person residing at the home.
“She further stated that she didn’t plant the cannabis plant and that her friend did, and (Smith) would not reveal the name of the friend to police,” Mr Selic said.
Smith was subsequently charged.
The court heard that Smith had a two-page criminal history which included previous drug offending.
When given the chance in court, a self-represented Smith did not make any submission to Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale.
Ms Beckinsale fined her $300 and a conviction was recorded.
