“Take all your guns and taser and kill all the motherf---kers.”

This is what one drunken lout, with a laceration to his forehead, told police who were called to the Fitzroy Riverbank near the Boathouse one Friday afternoon in October.

And it wasn’t the first time Matthew Reece Triad Oram, 28, made violent gestures in the presence of police, having moved into the fighting stance position upon police when they approached just weeks earlier.

Oram was sentenced in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on November 27 after pleading guilty to one count each of assaulting police while intoxicated in a public place, obstruct police, possession of used syringe, stealing, failing to leave a licensed venue and two of public nuisance – one at a licensed venue.

Police prosecutor Clancy Fox said during the riverbank incident, on October 13, Oram was so intoxicated that police had to hold him up.

He said he was also drinking water from a cup and bleeding from a cut in his mouth, which he threw in the face of a police officer – some of it landing in their mouth.

Oram was arrested and taken to the Rockhampton watch house.

They found two used capped syringes in his pants pocket.

Two weeks earlier, on September 29, police were called to deal with a person “hitting and kicking property” on Albert Street in Rockhampton about 1.30pm.

Police found Oram in the middle of the road, armed with a stick sharpened at both ends and he moved into a fighting stance upon seeing them, yelling at police.

Mr Fox said they drew their tasers and told him to drop the stick, which he threw on the ground before being arrested for public nuisance.

The next day about 4.30pm, Oram was asked to leave the Oxford Hotel due to his behaviour.

Mr Fox said Oram was highly intoxicated, violent and aggressive.

“Despite being asked to leave several times, he failed to do so,” he said.

Mr Fox said Oram eventually did leave the venue but stayed on the street corner where he was approached by police, yelling offensive words while shirtless.

Oram went on to steal an $8 bottle of alcohol from First Choice Liquor on Bolsover Street on October 1.

Defence lawyer Brendan Gimbert said his client had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and alcohol had been a long-term problem.

He said Oram wants to attend Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drugs Services but didn’t get the chance between last released from custody and being taken back in after this offending.

Oram was a suspended sentence at the time.

He was sentenced on November 27 to four months prison to be served on top of the suspended sentence and he was given parole eligibility on December 31.
