Man wanted for armed robberies arrested after he went to hospital

A man wanted in relation to armed robberies is under police guard at a hospital.

A man wanted in relation to the alleged armed robbery of a taxi driver is under police guard in Rockhampton Hospital after he was arrested there on Monday night after presenting at the Emergency Department.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said police were called to the hospital at 11.10pm on Monday and it was there that they arrested a 37-year-old man.

“This man has presented there with a medical condition,” the QPS spokesman said.

“Police have arrested him and then he’s gone into (medical) treatment and he’s still in hospital now (Tuesday morning) receiving treatment.

“He was arrested on warrants – he was wanted on warrants in relation to (alleged) armed robberies.

“He won’t be leaving the hospital until such time as he is medically cleared to do so, at which time he will be transferred to the watch-house.”

Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey said the male was arrested on one count of armed robbery, one count of deprivation of liberty, one count of attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle and two counts of a breach of bail in relation to an incident which occurred on July 22 in Norman Gardens.

“Police will allege this male was involved in the offence of holding up a taxi driver with a firearm,” Det Peachey said.

“As a result, this man will appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court at a later date.

“He is currently under guard at Rockhampton Hospital for ingesting an unknown substance. He was discovered at the Rockhampton Base Hospital by police and had presented there as a result of ingesting these unknown substances.”
