Lincoln Scott Boon faces court after participating in an illegal street race at Biloela

Police were exiting a service station when they caught the two drivers in the act. Here’s what happened to one of the men when he faced court.

A teenage driver busted street racing in Central Queensland has faced court after police caught the offenders in the act.

Lincoln Scott Boon, 18, pleaded guilty in Biloela Magistrates Court on March 23 to a charge of taking part in a race between vehicles.

The court heard that on February 13, about 10.40pm, Boon was driving a Ford Falcon sedan which raced another vehicle on the Dawson Highway at Biloela.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said police were exiting a service station on the Dawson Highway when they heard vehicles in the distance “revving loudly.”

“Police saw two vehicles racing towards them, two abreast, which was on a four-lane roadway,” Sgt Ongheen said.

“Police activated their warning lights - (Boon) did not stop.”

Sgt Ongheen said later, at 11.30pm, police went to Boon’s residence and spoke to him where he admitted it was him driving.

“He (Boon) went on to say he had met up with his friend at Liberty Service Station - he said ‘we were both racing each other’.

“(Boon’s) vehicle was immobilised for 90 days by way of registration plate confiscation.”

Sgt Ongheen said Boon had just one offence on his traffic history and that was for speeding.

Solicitor Richard Parks said Boon worked for an earthmoving company at Jambin.

“He’s undertaking a traineeship for civil construction at his place of employment,” Mr Parks said.

“It’s his second year, so this is going to be a little bit of a wall that he’s got to get over - losing his licence for six months, obviously.”

Before handing down penalty, Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale told Boon this was “a bad mistake to make”.

“Police had to knock on your door to track you down, because I presume you saw the lights and made the choice not to stop.”

Ms Beckinsale fined Boon $600 and disqualified him from driving for six months.
