Lawyer Jack Anthony Blackburn’s choking charge matter update provided to Rockhampton court

The court has been updated about a Rockhampton lawyer’s alleged criminal offences including when a fresh bail application will take place. Read here what the court heard.

More charges could be laid against a Rockhampton criminal lawyer accused of choking a woman, a court has heard.

Jack Anthony Blackburn, 34, has been charged with one count of choking (domestic violence) and was remanded in custody after a failed bail application in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on April 12.

An update on the matter was provided in court on August 3 where defence lawyer Mirren Smith said there were potentially more charges to be laid.

Ms Smith also advised the court the registry committal for the choking charge was underway and a bail application would be heard in the Supreme Court this week.

During the bail application in April, the court heard the allegations involved Mr Blackburn allegedly choking the alleged victim twice on March 20 and threatening to put a large wooden pencil through her windpipe.

It is alleged the first choking incident was with his hands around the alleged victim’s neck and it made it hard for her to swallow and breath and caused her vision to blur.

It is alleged he also wrapped an arm around the victim’s neck from behind and applied pressure, causing the alleged victim difficulty breathing.

Mr Blackburn is also alleged to have dug his knuckle into the alleged victim’s lower spine, which caused her to drop to the ground.

It was also alleged Mr Blackburn and the victim were at a park in the Rockhampton region on April 2 where he allegedly made threats of suicide by police and to harm other persons, causing the alleged victim stress.

Mr Blackburn is accused of making further threats of harm to a police officer, threats of suicide by police, threats of suicide by driving into a tree or a truck and threats to blow up a law society building.

Mr Blackburn’s matters, on August 3, were adjourned to October 6.
