A Central Queensland methamphetamine user was charged with drug-driving after he got into a verbal altercation with staff at a McDonald’s “drive-thru” and they called the police.
Joshua Ian Torr, 38, pleaded guilty in Biloela Magistrates Court on February 9 to drug-driving.
The court heard that Torr attended a McDonald’s drive-thru at Calliope on October 23 last year, about 7.30am.
“He made an order. There was a verbal altercation between (Torr) and McDonald’s staff,” Police Prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said.
“As a result, McDonald’s staff called the police.”
At 8.35am, police found Torr’s vehicle at a service station at Benaraby.
They tested Torr and he returned a positive to methamphetamine.
The court heard that Torr had a nine-page criminal history and Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale commented: “Drug use would appear to be a feature of your life there.”
She noted that Torr had no relevant traffic history in the past five years.
Torr represented himself in court and Ms Beckinsale asked him what he was doing about his drug use.
He replied that he was “off them” now.
Torr said at the time of the offending he was living on the streets, out of his car, and now he was residing in a house.
Torr said he was currently on a disability pension.
Ms Beckinsale fined Torr $350 and disqualified him from driving for one month.
