Details of a dramatic pokies room punch-up at Yeppoon Bowls Club, which led to a man chasing another male patron “around the entire venue”, have been revealed in court.

Jordan Dean King, 28, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on September 9 to a charge of public nuisance in a licensed premises.

The court heard that on January 19 at 7.30pm, King was at Yeppoon Bowls Club when an incident occurred in the gaming room in full view of patrons and staff.

The prosecution said King was involved in a verbal argument with another male patron.

That escalated to both men kicking, punching and grabbing each other.

King threw the man to the ground and kicked him in the head.

Staff attempted to defuse the situation and got in between both men, but King proceeded to chase the man through the venue while continually trying to grab and punch him.

The man being chased left the venue and a short time later staff asked King to do the same.

The following day, police viewed CCTV footage from inside the gaming room.

The prosecution said that showed King throwing punches repetitively at the other man, as well as throwing him to the ground and kicking him in the head multiple times.

It said the footage showed staff trying to intervene, however King “continually pursued that other male around the entire venue, and made multiple attempts to throw punches at that male.”

The court heard that Yeppoon Bowls Club intended to ban King from the venue but it also requested a court order ban be put in place, and the prosecution sought one for 12 months.

King, representing himself in court, wanted to explain to Acting Magistrate Athol Kennedy what had happened.

“I had an altercation in the pokie room,” King said.

“I used to go up there every Friday, like two o’clock to six o’clock.

“I was in the pokie area - some fella come up to a lady and asked for cigarettes and I’ve never seen him there before.

“And she said ‘no’ and then, you know, he told her to go.

“He had enough to drink, anyway I was in the toilets, and he touched me up in the toilets, and I went to the front desk and asked ‘can you please kick him out?’

“And then me saying that, old mate’s retaliated and then we got into a verbal argument, punches were thrown and that.

“But that there, I’d love to see the video evidence because there’s no way either, I kicked him in the head - mate I’ve got morals.”

Mr Kennedy then said to King: “You’ve got no previous history.”

And King responded: “That’s exactly right... but in the end, yeah I threw punches, I’m guilty, not going to sugar coat it.”

Mr Kennedy asked King what he did for a living and he said he was off work at the moment due to injury.

He placed King on an eight month good behaviour bond with a $500 recognisance, and imposed a 12-month banning order at the bowls club.

No conviction was recorded.

The court did not hear details about whether the other man involved in the incident had been charged.
