A teenager stood between her partner and a police officer to shield him from being tased after he came at an officer with a metal pole.

Jacqueline Louise Cobett De Jong, 19, and Jayden Robert James Evans, 18, faced Rockhampton Magistrates Court on November 13 in relation to an incident at a home in Gracemere on October 27.

Police prosecutor Corey O’Connor said police attended the address about 9.30am in relation to a wanted person.

Mr O’Connor said police entered the home and Evans approached the officers screaming at them.

“The defendant was told numerous times to get back by police,” he said.

He said Evans screamed at police, “f--k you, you dog; you f--king scummy c--t”.

He said Evans tried to push past police to get to where other officers were restraining a person and was warned he was obstructing police and would be arrested if he continued.

He said Evans screamed at the officers to “go f--k yourself” before walking away and grabbing a metal bar he raised toward an officer who was drawing his taser.

The court heard De Jong stood in front of Evans with her arms spread, preventing the police officer from pulling his taser.

Mr O’Connor said De Jong had to be physically moved out of the way and that police used “open hand tactics” to restrain Evans and place him under arrest.

He said De Jong’s “actions required police to exercise more violence than otherwise would have been necessary”.

He said police searched the home and found three water pipes in a bedroom, as well as 2.1g of marijuana in a small container on a bedside table that De Jong claimed ownership of.

Defence lawyer Rebecca Winning, who represented both De Jong and Evans, said De Jong became upset when she saw her partner, Evans, being tasered and acted out.

Ms Winning said Evans felt “ashamed” and “stupid” after the incident.

She said Evans had no criminal history.

De Jong pleaded guilty to one count of possessing dangerous drugs, possessing drug paraphernalia and obstructing a police officer and was fined $500 and placed on a three-month good behaviour bond with a recognisance of $200 and condition she attend drug or alcohol counselling.

No criminal convictions were recorded.

Evans pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting a police officer and obstructing a police officer and was fined $800.

No criminal convictions were recorded.
