An inquest is to be held in relation to a Rockhampton man police believe died in a hit-and-run crash.

Rockhampton local Jim Murphy, 76, died in August 2019.

Police had previously alleged a 2005 purple Ford Falcon hit pedestrian Mr Murphy outside the Brunswick Hotel in Archer Street about 8.20pm on August 18.

They had charged a man over the incident, but he recently had his charges dismissed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A pre inquest conference has been scheduled to held in Mackay on February 20.

According to the Coroners Court of Queensland, the inquest will look at who Mr Murphy was, how he died, when and where he died and what the medical cause of death was.

It will also look at the make, model and registration of the vehicle which struck Mr Murphy outside the Brunswick Hotel; along with who the driver was, how many and who were in the car at the time and what caused the collision between the vehicle and Mr Murphy.
