A Central Queensland grandmother of 22 has faced court after being busted drink-driving with drugs in her handbag.

Jennifer Jane Williams, 58, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on March 21 to drink-driving and possessing cannabis.

The court heard that on January 22, Williams was driving to Rolleston when she was pulled over by police for a random breath test.

Police Prosecutor Senior Constable Sarah Rowe said Williams told police that she had been drinking beer that day and she admitted that she had smoked cannabis the previous night.

Police found 1g of cannabis in Williams’ handbag and she returned a blood alcohol reading of .110.

“(Williams) admitted it was hers (cannabis) and she’d forgotten it was there and she would have continued to smoke it the previous night with her family,” Snr Const Rowe said.

Representing herself in court, Williams said she was a sole parent of six adult children and she had 22 grandchildren.

“A couple of those children are on drugs and I’ve tried to help them all out.”

Magistrate Cameron Press then said: “Well you can’t help them out by having drugs yourself.”

Williams apologised to the court and Mr Press told her if she had a drug problem she needed to do something about it.

Mr Press fined her $1300 and disqualified her from driving for four months.
