Glenn Michael Chalmers, 55, busted for methamphetamine possession after drug dealer steals back stash

A Rockhampton dad landed himself in hot water after calling police to report his drug dealer had broken into his house. Find out how it all unfolded.

Police seize $3.75m worth of meth

A man who shared some of his meth with two females ended up reporting his drug possession and the supplies to police after his own dealer broke into his house and stole back drugs.

Glenn Michael Chalmers, 55, pleaded guilty on February 10 in Rockhampton District Court to one count of possessing a dangerous drug and two counts of supplying a dangerous drug.

Crown prosecutor Matthew Sutton said the charges were laid after Chalmers told the police about his drugs while reporting a burglary.

He said Chalmers claimed he had purchased 1.75g of methamphetamines and had given 0.1g each to two female associates.

Mr Sutton said that same day, someone broke into Chalmers’s Norman Gardens residence.

Judge Jeff Clarke said Chalmers’s drug dealer had broken into the house and stolen back the drugs.

Defence barrister Jordan Ahlstrand said his client left school in year nine and had attempted to get his year 12 equivalent through TAFE when he was about 30 years old, but was unsuccessful due to his dyslexia.

He said the father of four had worked at a GM Holden factory for a year before his mental health hindered his ability to work.

Mr Ahlstrand said Chalmers, who has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, was able to work for about two years as a courier for an air conditioner company with that employment ending in 2000.

He said Chalmers married his now former wife in 1990 and they divorced in 2014.

Mr Ahlstrand said his client started smoking marijuana when he was 14 and started using meth in 2013.

He said Chalmers was appropriately medicated for his mental health disorder.

Judge Clarke said information before the court was that Chalmers had gone from an involuntary treatment order to a voluntary treatment order.

“If it were not for your extensive and frank admission to police, it is highly unlikely this offending would have come to light,” he said.

Judge Clarke said not many people diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia were as accepting of their condition and treatment as Chalmers.

He placed Chalmers on a two-year probation order and convictions were recorded.
