Man, 25, killed in single-vehicle highway crash

A Sunshine Coast man has died after he was ejected from his car in a single-vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway north of Rockhampton.

A Sunshine Coast man has died after he was ejected from his car in a single-vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway at Canoona, north of Rockhampton, on Monday.

The man, 25, of Yandina, was declared dead at the scene.

Police said a blue 2010 Holden Commodore ran off the highway about 10am and crashed into trees before overturning.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage have been urged to contact Policelink on 131 444.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man has died and two others have been injured after a Toyota HiLux rolled at Valentine Plains, east of Biloela.

Police said the crash happened about 6pm on Monday nigh along Lake Callide Drive.

A Thangool man, the driver of the vehicle, was taken to Biloela Hospital, where he was declared deceased.

Two passengers in the vehicle, an 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl, sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital.

It comes as police have made a plea for courtesy on the roads as the Wide Bay Burnett’s death toll rises to be almost twice that of 2022.

Police figures as of September 6, 2023, reveal that 29 lives have been lost on the region’s roads since the start of the year - 13 higher than recorded in the same time last year.
