Delays in two Rockhampton rape cases have been revealed in court

One man is charged with rape and attempted rape, while another is facing six rape charges and six charges of indecently treating children. Here’s the latest on both cases.

Delays in two Rockhampton rape cases have been revealed in court.

One man is charged with one count each of rape, assault with intent to rape, fail to appear, enter dwelling by break, person who attempts to commit rape, trespass, possess drugs and operate vehicle while number plates confiscated.

Another is charged with six counts of rape, one supply illegal drugs to a minor, three counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16 and three counts of indecent treatment of a child under 12.

There matters were mentioned in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on April 6 where delays in both matters were revealed.

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady represented both accused men.

She said she had received partial briefs in both cases and there was outstanding material in both cases.

It was revealed there were outstanding DNA reports in both, and an expert statement in the second man’s case.

Police prosecutor Brandy Butler requested four week adjournments for both cases.

“There is no current ETA on that matter,” she said.

“There are lengthy delays with that department.”

The first man’s matters were adjourned until April 22 and the second man’s were adjourned until May 4.
