Costly crocodile farmhand’s snap road rage decision in the middle of a road

A crocodile farmhand made a snap decision to stop his car in the middle of a road and smash another motorist’s window in a road rage incident.

A crocodile farmhand made a snap decision to stop his car in the middle of a road and smash another motorist’s window in a road rage incident.

Billi-Jai Cameron-Knight, 22, pleaded guilty on July 7 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count of wilful damage.

Police prosecutor Stacey Bain said the victim was travelling behind Cameron-Knight on the Burnett Highway on June 21.

She said after turning onto Gavial-Gracemere Road, Cameron-Knight stopped his vehicle in the middle of the road with the victim having to stop behind him.

Ms Bain said Cameron-Knight approached the victim and yelled “stop tailgating me”.

She said Cameron-Knight then punched the driver’s window twice, shattering it.

Ms Bain said the victim reported the incident via PoliceLink and when police spoke with Cameron-Knight, they noticed fresh cuts on his arm.

She said Cameron-Knight denied stopping the car and punching the window, telling police the injuries to his arm were from his job as a crocodile farmhand.

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said Cameron-Knight had been working at the crocodile farm for two weeks and worked as a scaffolder before that.

She said he had gone through a hard time with his partner recently.

Ms Legrady said Cameron-Knight still claimed the injuries to his arm were from work.

Magistrate Jason Schubert said this example of road rage was not how one was expected to deal with tailgating.

He sentenced Cameron-Knight to six months probation, ordered he pay $220 restitution and no conviction was recorded.
