A Central Queensland rail line re-opened about 5pm Wednesday after a 4wd entered the rail corridor and collided with a freight train earlier in the day.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said the incident happened about 11.35am at a crossing at Dawson and Amanda Roads at Glenlee in the Livingstone Shire.
A Queensland Rail spokesperson said the train was moving at the time but the crew on board and the sole occupant of the vehicle were not injured.
“The train is clear of the crossing now but the vehicle has damaged the flashing lights,” she said.
“We have people out there to fix those.
“All rail traffic and road traffic is halted until they are back and working.”
The spokesperson said the line remained closed at 4pm, while the necessary repairs and tests were being completed.
A Pacific National spokesperson confirmed it was one of its intermodal freight trains, which was travelling from Cairns to Brisbane.
“Safety when approaching a rail level crossing is critical and the incident is currently being investigated by the authorities,” the spokesperson said.
“When the track is cleared, Queensland Rail will advise when services can safely resume.
“For drivers approaching a level crossing, it’s important to remember a train can’t swerve or stop quickly, which is why Pacific National has been investing in a public education awareness campaign to put the spotlight on safety around level crossings.”
Neither spokesperson could confirm what the train was carrying.
