A Central Queensland man accused of trafficking cocaine and marijuana claims he has to sell cattle to pay for lawyers.

Biloela man Timothy Daryl Barron had originally been charged 55 counts of supplying dangerous drugs, two counts of trafficking in dangerous drugs, possessing anything used in the commission of crime, and possessing property suspected of being proceeds of an offence under the Drugs Misuse Act.

Two counts of trafficking, one of supplying a dangerous drug and one of possessing anything used in a crime were presented in an indictment in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton on September 11.

Mr Barron’s lawyer Robert Burns told the court his client would likely be pleading guilty to the charges, but needed time to sell cattle to pay legal fees for the sentencing, and a presentence report needed to be prepared to address his background.

During Mr Barron’s successful bail application hearing in July 2021, defence lawyer Rebecca Harris said her client was the breadwinner for his wife and three children.

She said he was a volunteer football coach at Biloela State School, ran a jumping castle business with his wife, and was a 15-year mine worker now employed at an engineering firm.

Mr Barron’s trafficking and associated charges were adjourned for mention on October 3 and his bail was enlarged.
