Police seize $3.75m worth of meth

A Central Queensland mother who has battled a drug addiction for 15 years has been jailed for trafficking methamphetamines.

Belinda Jayne Pollock, 39, pleaded guilty on November 22 in the Supreme Court in Rockhampton to one count of trafficking a dangerous drug, three counts of possessing a dangerous drug, one of receiving tainted property, two possessing items used in the commission of a drug crime, two possessing pipes used to smoke drugs, one of driving while demerit point disqualified and one of drug driving.

Pollock was on a suspended sentence handed down in Gladstone District Court in November 2017 for fraud and stealing charges for which she received a two year and six months prison term, suspended for four years after serving three months.

This suspended sentence had been extended twice before she was busted trafficking meth in Gladstone between June 4, 2020, and July 24, 2020 with one of the extensions taking place while she trafficked drugs.

Pollock carried out at least 23 supplies for about 45.75g of meth to about 15 customers.

The trafficking was uncovered after police executed a search warrant on her Gladstone residence on July 23, 2020, and found a mobile phone she claimed belonged to her partner.

However, the court heard employees at the Director of Public Prosecutions had been contacting her in relation to another matter on that phone.

Police also located a stolen Samsung tablet, 0.11g meth, empty clip seal bags, seven water pipes, digital scales, a marijuana joint and a bud.

She was also on bail for the trafficking charge when she was intercepted drug driving on Glenlyon Road, South Gladstone, in October 2020 and when, in November 2020, she was found in possession of a ticksheet, meth, digital scales, clip seal bags and pipes used to smoke drugs.

Defence barrister Julie Marsden said despite her criminal record showing her history with her drug addiction, Pollock had engaged with services in the past 12 months and was keen to remain drug free and re-engage with her family and her children, who lived with their father.

Justice Graeme Crow sentenced Pollock to 3.5 years prison, which is cumulative on the district court sentence she is serving out, and set immediate parole eligibility.
